SO HOT

OMG humans are not made for this sort of heat; well at least I am not! It was 82 by 9am, and it got up to 97. I legitimately might melt. But I would like to quote my dad (in regards to our wood burning stove), “It’s a dry heat.” Dry it is. I just checked….5% humidity. I don’t think I have ever seen that in my life. 5%! No wonder they have problems with forest fires, it’s so incredibly dry. Oh but there is a breeze, it’s just that breeze also carries dust and cottonwood type fuzzies. And where these fuzzies come from I have no idea…there are no trees!

But it does help my laundry dry quickly. I found out it that it would cost $3 to wash one pair of jeans at my hotel. At my apartment in NYC it cost $3.40 for a washer and a dryer. So bathtub washing it is.

The power went out at work again today too. I think it may be because of the heat or maybe just the generally poor infrastructure here.

Still working away on my projects. I submitted a short article to Francis, the communications officer at the Federation regional office, which will hopefully be put in Asia Pacific Voices. They also mentioned possibly doing a photo essay with some of my pictures, so I will have to just wait and see what comes of it.

I am also a good deal less pouty about not going to the field this weekend. They were supposed to leave yesterday afternoon, but the visitor’s luggage did not come in. No point in going out without the camera equipment. Just found out it was not put on the next plane because it was too hot to carry any extra luggage. I guess they were able to borrow some camera equipment and headed out around 4. There is nothing I love more than being jerked around while travelling, so it’s best I am not involved. Also, I have enough problems with motion sickness. 7-8 hours in a 95 degree car would be bad news bears.

I have been watching the weather all day to see how hot it actually got. And then all of a sudden the temperatures started dropping and humidity rising and it was getting quite dark out. Uh-oh. So I decided to leave work early to beat the storm. Everyone in my office had already gone so I was outta there. I could see what looked like a dust storm headed my way. Winds were getting crazy and it started to rain. Looks like it will clear up pretty quickly.
